The weekend shooting death in Winthrop involved a husband fatally firing a gun at his wife, apparently during an argument in her apartment, prosecutors said.
The victim was 47-year-old Jacklyn Berry and her husband was 58-year-old Sean Brewer, who has been charged with manslaughter, the Suffolk County district attorney’s office said in identifying the two people.

Ms Berry “was a proud sister, daughter, and auntie, niece, friend and cousin to so many,” friends said in announcing a fundraising effort to help cover her hospital and funeral costs.
Mr Brewer was set for arraignment Tuesday in the East Boston District Court, the district attorney said Monday.
Further details of the case will be outlined at the arraignment, the prosecution office said, though Mr Brewer was understood to have a history that made him familiar with police in the Boston area.
Lived alone
The shooting happened in an apartment building at 26 Beacon Street, across from the Massa Playground. Winthrop police said they went to the scene around 8:37 a.m. Sunday after receiving multiple calls describing an argument.
Ms Berry was a tenant of the building since November 2025, while Mr Brewer was not on any lease document and was not an approved tenant, according to Aaron Daigneault, the head of Blue Sky Realty, the building’s owner.
Mr Daigneault, in a written response to questions about the case, called Ms Berry “a great tenant” and “a strong applicant that applied for the apartment by herself, and leased the unit by herself.”
“Sean Brewer was not an approved tenant by Blue Sky Realty,” Mr Daigneault said. “We never received an application for him, he was not on any lease of ours, and we were never notified of a request to accept him as an additional tenant in the building.”
Friends praise
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jacklyn’s family and friends during this very difficult time,” he said.
In their fundraising notice, the friends of Ms Berry described her as “sweet, loyal, loving, and kind. She was a nurturer.”
“The world is a little less bright today because she’s gone,” they said. “Jackie, we will love and miss you for the rest of our days.”
